Moving or cracking floorboards

Moving, cracking, bouncy or creaking floorboards can quickly become irritating, especially in high traffic areas.

The root cause is often due to loose floorboards, the bounciness and movement can cause the floorboards to rub together or against a fixing nail or floor joist.

Squeaky, bouncy floorboards can also be due to floor joist issues, the wooden beams beneath the floor, when there is a gap between the joist and the floor boards, there may be space for movement. But there are other possible causes too:

  • Incorrect nails

  • Poorly fitted nails

  • Gap between joist and underside of floor

  • Issues with supporting joists
